We're entering into the fourth edition of the Nations League competition. Serbia wasn't even among the extended circle of tournament favorites in the 2024 European Championship. However, the Eastern Europeans can't be completely satisfied with their performance. In the preliminary round, they did not win a single game and only scored one goal. The team's defense held firm, conceding only two goals in the tournament. In the end this was only enough for the 4th place and an early return home. Now in their opening game they should play vs the European champion Spain at home. There is of course not the slightest doubt about Spain's role as favorites in this match. Anyone who doubts that the southern Europeans can take the Nations League lightly can rest assured. After all, Spain reached the final in the last two editions of the competition. In 2023 they won on penalties against Croatia and will therefore be defending champions this season. The most recent fixture between the two sides which was played in 2012 ended 2-0 in favor of Spain.
